Why AI Agents Need Authoritative Information

Retrieval tolerates ambiguity. Action does not.

Search retrieves. Agents act. That difference has consequences for the information underneath.

A search result that is slightly wrong wastes a click. An agent booking a service against wrong availability, wrong service area or an expired credential produces a real-world failure with a real-world cost.

The interface question

Agents need a way in that is not scraping: a described interface over a record, with permissions, rate policy and an audit trail. Emerging protocols such as MCP are one attempt at this shape.

An agent is only as reliable as the record it acts against.
