Records

A record is a representation of something that exists.

A persistent, structured representation of an entity — including its identity, attributes, relationships, provenance, verification, permissions and current state.
01More than a row

A database row stores values. A record stands for a thing in the world and carries the obligations that come with it: to say where each fact came from, to say when it was last true, and to say who is allowed to change it.

That difference is why we treat records as infrastructure rather than content. Content is produced and then ages. Infrastructure is operated, and expected to remain correct.

Pages describe things. Records represent things.
