Pages Describe Things. Records Represent Things.

The difference between a description and a representation is maintenance.

A description is authored once and ages from the moment it is published. A representation is maintained: it is expected to change when the thing it stands for changes.

A small example

A landscaping company adds commercial snow removal. On the page-centric internet, someone edits a paragraph, and every copy of that paragraph elsewhere is now wrong. On a record-centric internet, an attribute changes, a change event is emitted, and every surface subscribing to that record can reflect it.

Records tell us what exists. Events tell us what changed.

This is why we think of records as infrastructure rather than content. Content is produced. Infrastructure is operated.
